The purposes of this home page are shown as follows;
- To broaden shoulder knowledge to common people by avoid the technical terms as much as possible. Namely, we explain them briefly.
- To show our shoulder evidence to patients who are suffering from shoulder injuries. We use our data based on published papers including Dr. Mori’s work, and case presentation by imaging, patient’s photos and interview.
The shoulder is more sensitive than most of us think. Its extraordinary range of motion and primary point of articulation for the entire arm put it at risk for a variety of injuries. These include: arthritis, nerve damage, rotator cuff injuries, shoulder fractures and dislocations.
We Review Options Together to Make the Best Decision
Our goal is to help you return to your healthy, productive life. A quarterback for a pro football team will have a different course of care than a 75 year old grandmother struggling with rotator cuff problems. Therapy can play a dramatic role for many shoulder injuries and arthroscopic surgery provides new minimally invasive options for relief. Advanced surgery, joint replacements and tendon transplants represent some of the shoulder repairs we've pioneer.
Advanced Care for Athletes with Shoulder Injuries
For professional and amateur athletes and active enthusiasts, we are proud to offer total care for the complete range of sports-related shoulder injuries. The shoulder is sensitive. There are many moving parts woven together in a complex network of nerves, tendons, ligaments, connective tissue, cartilage, blood vessels and bone. A small inflammation or tear can literally shut down the shoulder.
Some of the shoulder injuries we treat include:
- Acromioclavicular (AC) Joint Separation / Arthritis
- Arthritis
- Bicep Tendonitis
- Bicep Tendon Ruptures
- Calcific Tendinitis
- Cartilage (Labral) Tears

Flow of Medical Consultation
Greetings
My name is Daisuke Mori, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow joints. I recently opened the Kyoto Orthopedic Shoulder Sports Clinic near Tōji Station on the Kintetsu Kyoto Line. We’ve installed an MRI machine and made it available on Sundays, alongside rehabilitation services. This homepage is designed to provide a clearer understanding of shoulder joints, with additional articles prepared for those interested in surgical treatments. I hope this will serve as a source of help for those struggling with shoulder joint disorders, and I appreciate your support for both the clinic and the website.
The official homepage is already up and running. Below are the features of our clinic:

I graduated from Kansai Medical University in March 2002 and joined the orthopedic department at Kyoto University. After entering the department, I became closely connected with strong peers and met outstanding doctors in associated hospitals. I believe I’ve been fortunate in my career, partly because my superiors recognized my enthusiasm and encouraged me to grow. I’ve studied and refined my skills, but I wouldn’t claim to have mastered medicine completely. There were times when I felt I couldn’t truly say I had healed someone. However, I have gained insights into alleviating the concerns of patients dealing with illnesses. Now, 20 years into my career, I’ve felt a strong desire to create a place where I can utilize these experiences—and this urge led me to establish my own clinic.

For Those Who Neither Have Frozen Shoulder Nor Rotator Cuff Tear
<For those diagnosed with no abnormalities through examinations yet continue to experience shoulder pain>

Among shoulder-related conditions, frozen shoulder is widely recognized, and rotator cuff tear has also gained increasing attention through medical programs on TV and media platforms like magazines and advertisements. These conditions are now becoming familiar terms in society. People enduring persistent shoulder pain often suspect they might have a rotator cuff tear and consult a doctor for an MRI examination. Afterward, orthopedic surgeons might conclude: "The MRI shows no tendon tears, and there's no abnormality. It's likely frozen shoulder. Since the pain is probably transient, we’ll prescribe medication and patches—please observe your condition for a while." Alternatively, they may say, "Here's a guide for shoulder exercises," or "Let’s proceed with rehabilitation at the hospital." While pursuing self-guided exercises or hospital rehabilitation, the pain sometimes remains, leading individuals to visit my outpatient clinic frequently.
In such cases, where treatments like injections and rehabilitation at other institutions fail to yield improvement, biceps tendon injury often emerges as the primary cause of prolonged shoulder pain. In this section, I aim to share insights from my experience—diagnostic approaches, principles for conservative therapy, and surgical therapy. As an example, I will discuss a surgical case involving my own mother. I firmly believe this section will serve as a valuable reference for those told by doctors that X-rays and MRIs show no abnormalities and that rotator cuff tears are not present, yet who continue to suffer from shoulder pain.
Shoulder Stabilization Surgery for Contact Sport Athletes
Introduction
Advancements in medicine have made arthroscopic surgeries the standard for treating recurrent shoulder dislocations. However, for athletes involved in contact sports, even arthroscopic Bankart repairs often result in re-dislocations or subluxations during competitions due to intense impacts or accidental collisions. Surgical approaches for contact sport athletes are therefore being reconsidered.
Contact Sports Examples
・Rugby
・American football
・Basketball
・Soccer
・Handball
・Judo, etc.

Ideal Surgery for Contact Sport Athletes
・Enables athletes to fully engage in their sport without the fear of shoulder dislocations.
・Prevents shoulder pain during strength training.
・Facilitates quick postoperative recovery.
・Maintains excellent shoulder mobility.
For Those Experiencing Persistent Symptoms after Conservative Therapy for Acromioclavicular Joint Dislocations
Surgical treatments for acromioclavicular joint dislocations still vary across facilities. Some individuals continue to experience symptoms despite observation or treatment without surgery. When the dislocated acromioclavicular joint remains untreated for an extended period, the condition is referred to as chronic acromioclavicular joint dislocation. Is it too late for treatment after such prolonged neglect? Please don’t give up hope.
